TUF 11 FINALE WRAP UP

As the night wraps up on a really great moment, I give you my thoughts on tonight’s card.

Court McGee’s dominating performance over Kris McCray was a breath of fresh air for the TUF series. In the last 11 seasons I can’t remember the last time we have seen a TUF winner with such a compelling story. It was great to see him win and have his moment. Even in his losing efforts against Nick Ring, a very close fight, I thought McGee looked like the stand out fighter. In fact, throughout the whole season, even in his loss, he never really displayed a weak point. The guy has a great chin, good striking, and as he showed tonight, some good wrestling. He is definitely a well rounded fighter and can do grea tthings in the organization.

In the night’s co-main event, we saw a less than stellar performance from two TUF/UFC vets in Keith Jardine and Matt Hammill. Hammill refused to use his superior wrestling until the third round, and though Jardine started off strong, he failed to put it all together througout the whole fight. On the topic of Herb Dean’s taking a point away from Jardine, that didn’t seem necessary.

Anyways, tonight was a night where the TUF participants really shined more that the UFC vets. I’m sure we will see a fight between McGee and TUF 11’s only undefeated fighter, Rich Antonito. Antonito displayed his compsure against Jamie Yager to pull out the win.

As for me, I had a pretty poor night, ending with a 4-6 overall picks record, as well as being decimated in my JFC debut. Luckily, the JFC fight will not count against myoverall record. I credit the loss to the fact that it is difficult to judge these TUF fights considering we haven’t seen that much from them.

Anyways, till next time: UFC 116

DOES CARLOS CONDIT WANT HIS WEC WW TITLE BACK, TOO BAD…
In this fun game I like to play ever since I realized it, I took a look back at WHAT IF… Carlos Condit was STILL the WEC champion…Let’s look at it like this.
CONDIT - CHAMP
Condit took on Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut, losing a close decision in a great fight. Kampmann won and took the WEC welterweight title.
KAMPMANN - CHAMP
Kampmann was decimated by Paul Daley
DALEY - CHAMP
Daley was overtaken by Josh Koscheck’s wrestling, we all know what happened there…
KOSCHECK - CHAMP
Well, because the title has changed hands so many times (lol), I guess they figured they finally needed to put it to rest. Koscheck fights an always and extremely tough Georges St. Pierre for the UFC welterweight title, ultimately unifying both belts… so here is a goodbye to a semimetaphorical belt that used to exist…
Goodbye WEC welterweight title, it was fun while it lasted.

GGB TUF 10 PICKS RESULTS

TUF 10 is in the books. There will be a lot to talk about after this event. From Roy Nelson’s new UFC career, to Kimbo’s improvements as an MMA fighter, to the use of replay for the first time in MMA history.

Here’s how we faired on the night.

Jaye’s Picks: 2-3
I had a rather unfortunate night. My two wins came off of two of the favorites of the night. Edgar/Veach was kind of a gimme, and even though the Roy Nelson/Brendan Schaub fight was harder to pick, I felt rather strongly about that one. Jon Jones’ domination of Matt Hamill should have made me 3-2 right? Well due to Jones’ over aggression, the technical call on the night was a DQ, leaving me with a losing night.

Matt’s Picks: 3-2
While our picks only differed on one fight the entire night, that fight became the deciding factor for the two of us. Matt picked Hamill to win, and win he did. Both of us had Houston Alexander winning due to experience, however no one could have predicted how that Kimbo fight was going to turn out.

The UFC announced during The Ultimate Finale the next step for dance star Chuck Liddell will be a return to a coaching position on The Ultimate Fighter, opposite rival Tito Ortiz.

A WIN FOR MATT HAMILL/JON JONES COULD MEAN THE NEXT BIG STEP
One word that has allways surrounded, and continues to surround fighters Jon “Bones” Jones, and Matt “The Hammer” Hamill has been buzz. The two have danced among the ranks of the light heavyweight division, racking up win after impressive win. Hamill is a season three veteran of The Ultimate fighter who was en route to the finals before he was de-railed with an injury. Subsequently, Hamill found himself fighting that season’s winner Michael Bisping in an electrifying and fun match that took place in England. Though Hamill lost the fight, many say that the decision was fairly controversial. Hamill has seen a bit more of the bright lights of the UFC, and has a few more “big names” under his belt. Obviously the split decision to Bisping, as well as a loss to Rich Franklin.
Jones however is a fairly new fighter with not so many big name fights. However, it is his abilities that show exactly why he has found himself in this fight with Hamill. His decimation of Stefan Bonner at UFC  94 quickly earned him a considerable amount of fans.
The winner of this match will without a doubt be ready for a much more decisive test in their next fight. For the first time in a long time, the light heavyweight division is increasingly competitive. Thrusting one of these two in the mix of up and coming contenders will only make things that more interesting.
